Whitegates
A speculative luxury house development located in Oxshott, Surrey. A major remodelling of an existing 1950s detached house undertaken in conjunction with Carrick Howell Lawrence Architects, under the Carrick Yau partnership. The existing house was of a three bedroom layout, approximately 1300 sq.ft. in area. It had been unmodernised since its construction and required much thought to bring it up to contemporary standards of space and comfort. Folding-sliding doors open the living room and kitchen/dining rooms onto the deck and garden. The high quality design achieves a natural flow of spaces through the house and out into the 200 ft long rear garden. The house possesses a 70 metre long south-facing garden backing onto woodland. The exterior of the house is white painted render at ground floor with painted timber boarding above. A white rendered entrance leads to a generous hall which opens onto the dining and reception rooms. The design increases the accomodation to 6 bedrooms and 3400 sq.ft. The floor area is more than doubled, with the addition of generous living and circulation areas. The design aims to achieve a natural flow through the spaces of the house and out into the 70 metre long rear garden. Crisp lines and clean open spaces are incorporated behind the double bay front facade.
